The three co-founders, Juan Manuel Balcazar, Matias Arnal, and Rodrigo Diaz, have been close friends since they met at pre-school in Bolivia. They all moved to Washington, DC in their teenage years to continue their education and achieve great things.
The idea to repurpose products arose when Rodrigo and Matias remembered back the days they worked at Starbuck’s Coffee together as teenagers, and the amount of coffee thrown away in the trash daily made a lasting impression on them.
After considering many ideas, they thought that the issue of reducing landfill waste from disposed of goods had the greatest business potential and that it would be a worthy cause to pursue. So, in July 2017, they established Coffeffe and later rebranded to Urbanized in March 2018.
